How I Stopped Laundry From Controlling My Life

That’s it! I quit! HOW IN THE HELL IS THERE SO MUCH LAUNDRY IN MY HOUSE? There are four of us total. For shits sake, I hardly ever change my clothes (Gross, I know.) I can wear the same pair of yoga pants for 3 days straight. So how in the hell are these three baskets full of dirty clothes? How does every room in the house have piles of clothes that my baby can get lost in?

I swear, I wash and I wash and I wash. I feel like all I do all day, every day is wash, dry, sometimes fold, and repeat. (Don’t even mention ironing, if you ask me to iron your clothes I’ll punch you in the face.)

I am no good at lying, and as a result you’ve probably noticed by now I hate cleaning. Even if I did enjoy it, I am not very good at any of it. I don’t pretreat stains. Hell, I don’t even check pockets. I once washed and dried crayons. As a result it was a massive disaster ruining all sorts of clothes. One time I accidentally washed the remote control because I didn’t shake out the blanket. Hubby wasn’t very happy about that one.

People must break into my house while I’m sleeping, wear my families clothes, then take them off and throw them on the floor. That has to be it. Neither of my kids can dress/undress themselves so how is this happening?

Folding, don’t even get me started on folding. Who has time for this?! It seems like I really do try. I set the laundry basket out, separate a few items, walk away, forget what I was doing, get back to it the next day.

My husband has to have clean, wrinkle-free clothes for work, so I actually do try to put a little effort into his work clothes. Again, I usually fail epically but it’s the thought that counts right?

Therefore I have decided to just say “suck it” to the laundry. I’m not doing it anymore. So I’ll wash and try to remember to dry in the same day. I think that’s probably good enough. I’ll throw the clean clothes onto my son’s bed because he doesn’t sleep on it. We can dig through and find what we need. I’ll use that time I’m saving to have a little “me time” which includes wine and Steve Harvey. I really think I deserve it.

Does anyone else have this problem? Are you on top of your laundry or does it rule your house?

Eff laundry. it’s the worse. There’s too many steps to just causally finish a load in one day. Then, when you do happen to get it all folded and put away it’s just strung out again when you finally decide to change what you’re wearing after a couple of days.

I really loved this. It had a sense of humor but it was so true. Feel the same way that you do. There is only 3 of us but I swear we have so much laundry I just can’t stay on top of it. I just got a washer and dryer so I’m hoping it will help, but some days I just want to say “I quite” LOL I feel that this a problem that I just can’t get down yet, and not sure if I ever will but I understand where you are coming from. Maybe if I do a load every day it might help lol. Great post.

That happens to me and I don’t have any kids at home! Hang in there, it will get better.

Yes! I run a daycare- I can’t even TELL YOU about the piles of laundry- I don’t mind washing it- but folding and putting away can SUCK IT.

Oh my gosh I couldn’t imagine! I feel like I run a day care and I have 2 kids! 😂

Its back and forth at my house, sometimes we’re on top of the laundry and other times not; I can definitely relate to wondering where all the clothes come from sometimes, it gets to be stressful, but I have to talk myself into letting go lol

Good for you, mama! Laundry is the absolute worst and there is NO POINT in being a slave to it. It won’t last forever!

We have quite the loads of laundry around here with soon to be 6 kids. I try to stay on top of at least one load of laundry a day and keep the clothing we own to a minimum. I have to say, I’m super excited to be teaching my oldest to run the washer and dryer soon! We already have a little army of clothes folders, which helps quite a bit.

Well said! I don’t mind washing and drying it, it’s the folding and putting away!

hahah had to read this for the title alone – I HATE laundry, but am trying to somewhat bear it. My son loves helping me with it, he constantly reminds me when it needs done haha I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing, but it’s a bonding time for us so I take it. (But I feel ya girl!) xx

Super Sirrious Mom - March 21, 2017 Reply

Hahaha I love it! My son loves to help too! It’s definitely bonding time and also takes 5 hours longer than it should lol!

I have piles all over–there are 4 of us too–2 teen, Hubby & I. I always joke that our laundry plies are really a great security–anyone braking in will trip over 1 or 20+ plies and their cursing would wake us up.

Oh my goodness this post is hilariously relatable. Literally the story of my life. The laundry causing burglar must be breaking in to my house at night too…!! I was on top of my laundry once, for like one day. Then it all went tits up and it was all over the house again *sigh* ! Xx

I agree so much with this blog! The sad thing is there is only 3 in my house and I put the laundry that doesn’t need hung up right away on the bed for 2 days or until I can get to them so I can play with my son. I think when he gets in school I might have more time for everything (or maybe not) haha. Great read thanks for sharing 🙂

Bahahahahahaha! I was telling my husband the same thing the other day! Laundry and dishes, they never end it’s like I am a slave to them. The load I did yesterday is still sitting in the dryer but I say out of sight out of mind until my kids run out of undies. Love your post thanks for sharing!

Yes! Just when I feel like I’m caught up on laundry, I take a break for a day or two. And then I have children/my husband telling me they’ve run out of socks. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?!

Sarah Althouse - March 21, 2017 Reply

Hahaha I kept waiting for the tips to keep on top of my laundry and then just laughed at your ending. It’s only me and my husband but I still feel like I am always doing laundry. I can’t even imagine once we have kids.

milesandellie - March 21, 2017 Reply

I almost hate laundry as much as I hate the dishes. I can relate to this. EVERY room has a pile of clothing in it waiting to be washed or folded and put away. It is a good thing my little has decided he only wants to sleep in bed with us, because his crib is our newest holder of the clothing. One day I will find a system that works. Until then, I will just enjoy my cup of tea while the laundry that needs to be folded just stares at me.

Laundry will be the death of me!! I usually can get it done before it piles up TOOO much, but folding it and getting it put away is another story LOL!

annemarkey1 - March 21, 2017 Reply

I hate laundry so much!! It for sure beats me every week!!! I need to get better at it!

Your post makes me laugh! I can’t remember the number of times I have decided to just “sleep” on my clean clothes instead of putting them away. haha. I appreciate your honesty. You are fabulous!

Super Sirrious Mom - March 22, 2017 Reply

Aww thank you so much!! I definitely just moved my clean clothes into the floor! 🙈

I’m so happy to hear others with the same issues of laundry! Now I don’t feel like I’m insane.. Honestly, laundry is a dread of mine. But finally the silver lining of children reaching a certain age. 🙂 My teenager does her own laundry now. And my 11 year old finds, and washes her own clothes as well. But hopefully one day, I shall see a house without a pile of dirty clothes in it.. lol

This made me giggle I find myself asking the same questions. How do I have so much laundry and it’s never ending. Oh and I love to start a load and completely forget about it =/ I have learned to not stress about it and it’s slowly working for me.

Super Sirrious Mom - March 27, 2017 Reply

Haha exactly! I feel bad for not having it done all of the time but is it really that important! Lol! Thank you for reading!
